To prevent the overheating of the polysilicon production, the China government has taken measures to control supply. But Taiwan's economics minister Yen-Shiang Shih stated that Taiwan will not take the same measure to control the solar market. Taiwan's solar technology and products are far superior to the Chinese counterparts, and therefore it is still beneficial to continue the investment into Taiwan's solar industry.
There have been concerns over the competitiveness of Taiwan's solar industry compared with China, which has seen many newcomers to the country's solar industry.
Responding to such concerns, Shih indicated that there is possible overheating of the polysilicon market in China, and the Chinese government has implemented policies to prevent oversupply from crashing the market. However, the situation is different in Taiwan. Taiwan's polysilicon companies posses superior technology and quality compared to the Chinese peers, and hence there are no overheating problems, added Shih.
Green energy is still the focus of Taiwan's development, especially for solar products and LEDs. The Taiwan government has been cooperating with the industry in technology inceptions and market developments. The government maintains its positive view for the development of solar industry.
