Network equipment maker Gemtek Technology has posted net profits of NT$45.3 million (US$1.58 million) or EPS of NT$0.18 for the first quarter of 2011. Fellow companies Billion Electric and Cameo Communications posted net losses of NT$16.82 million and NT$7 million, respectively, during the same period.
Billion saw its revenues decline drastically in the first quarter as shipments of its entry-level ADSL devices were affected by aggressive pricing competition from rival companies in China, according to industry sources.
The net losses at Billion translated into a net loss of NT$0.17 per share for the first quarter. Gross margin stood at 17.34% in the first quarter, down from 19.78% of a year earlier.
Cameo saw its first-quarter revenues slip 15% on year to NT$2.83 billion as gross margin dropped to 6.81% from 8.34% during the same period. Cameo concluded the first quarter with a loss of NT$0.03 per share.
