Asustek Computer shipped about two million motherboards in April 2011 and should be able to reach its goal to ship a total of 5.7 million units in the second quarter, equaling what it shipped in the first, according to an estimate by industry sources.

While maintaining regular shipments to its existing clients in the US, Europe, DIY channels and the tier-one and tier-two cities in China, Asustek has also shipped more motherboards to tier-three to tier-six cities in China and other emerging markets, the sources indicated.

Asustek is also likely to secure a gross margin over 25% in the second quarter as it did in the first, thanks to improved ASP and strong demand for high-end motherboards, said the sources.

Asustek, along with fellow company Gigabyte Technology, has raised its quotes by 5-15% since the beginning of the year. Additionally, prices for Asustek's forthcoming Z68-series motherboards will be also set at relatively high levels, the sources indicated.

The Z68-series will come in three models initially, the P68Z68 Deluxe, P8Z68-V Pro and P8Z68-V and all three models will support LucidLogix's Virtu graphics technology, according to the company.
