Garmin has launched a series of in-car GPS PNDs equipped with video recorders in Taiwan, the first market around the world for such Garmin products. Garmin will later launch in Japan, South Korea and Southeast Asia, according to the company's Asia Sales & Marketing Director, Tony An.

Taiwan-based Mitac International and Maction Technologies have launched GPS PNDs plus video recorders in the Taiwan market.

The video recorder is mounted on the back of the GPS PND to record car movement and video is simultaneously displayed on the screen of the device, An detailed. Time, coordinates and car speed can also be recorded and videos can be compared with Google Maps using PC software, An indicated.

The series was completely developed by Garmin's R&D staff in Taiwan, and Garmin is the first international vendor offering such products, An said.
