Taiwan-based DRAM maker ProMOS Technologies has been shifting its focus from the PC DRAM market while enforcing its presence in the niche-market DRAM business, according to company chairman ML Chen.

Meanwhile, ProMOS continues to expand its foundry business, said Chen. The company has stepped up on its R&D efforts to produce 2Gb chips, using Elpida Memory's stack designs, Chen added.

Chen also claimed that the partnership between his company and Elpida still continues. Both parties in late 2009 signed a DRAM foundry agreement under which ProMOS allocates capacity at its 12-inch fab at the Central Taiwan Science Park (CTSP) for the manufacture of Elpida's DDR3 memory. In return, Elpida provide ProMOS with required process technologies for making the chips.

In addition, ProMOS will refer a proposal to raise additional paid-in capital to the company's shareholders for discussion on June 10, Chen said. ProMOS has been negotiating with targets of private placement, Chen pointed out.

ProMOS' board of directors in early May approved plans to raise new funds through issue up to 1.5 billion new common shares and up to 3.5 million new preferred shares.
