Canon has started expanding its factory in the Taichung Export Processing Zone in central Taiwan with a NT$11 billion (US$382 million) budget, according to industry sources. The plant will produce DSLR (digital single-lens reflex) lenses and entry-level DSLR cameras beginning May 2012.
Canon expects the factory to produce seven million camera lenses for a total value of NT$33 billion in 2011. The operation of the new production capacity will increase workforce from 5,000 currently to 8,000 and annual revenues will rise to NT$52 billion.
