GaAs foundry Advanced Wireless Semiconductor Company (AWSC) has reported revenues of NT$179 million (US$6 million) for May 2011, up 0.5% sequentially and hitting the highest since November 2010.

Despite slower growth in May, AWSC's revenues for the ongoing second quarter are set to increase more than 40% from the NT$381 million posted in the prior quarter, according to market watchers. The watchers credited the rise to rising demand for power amplifiers (PAs) and switch ICs used in smartphones and tablet PCs.

In addition, the transition to 6-inch wafers will allow AWSC to scale up its overall output and secure new orders, the watchers indicated, adding that the GaAs foundry has signed up Sony with new orders to start contribution in the second half of 2011, but Skyworks remains its largest client.

Fellow GaAs foundry Win Semiconductors generated consolidated revenues of NT$704 million in May 2011, a record high. Market observers expect the company to enjoy sales growth of 10-15% sequentially in the second quarter.
