Network chipmakers Ralink Technology and Realtek Semiconductor both recorded strong sales in May with the former seeing its revenues hit the historical high for the month.

Ralink's May revenues topped NT$848 million (US$29.55 million), up 0.02% on month and 26.4% on year. For the first five months of 2011, revenues totaled NT$3.83 billion, increasing 29.5% from a year earlier.

Strong demand from the PC and consumer electronics sectors helped drive up May revenues, Ralink explained. Buoyed by improved product mixes, the company will also reach its goal for a 10% sequential revenue growth and a gross margin of higher than 37.5% set for the second quarter, Ralink noted.

Ralink also announced recently that its RT3572 line of single-chip, 2T2R dual-band 802.11n USB Wi-Fi chips, has been selected for implementation in Fujitsu's Stylistic Q550, a tablet PC designed for enterprise users.

Realtek saw its revenues up 14% on month and 18.9% on year to NT$2.34 billion in May, the company's second highest monthly figures. Accumulated revenues for the January-May period reached NT$9.79 billion, decreasing 5.9% from a year earlier.

While stating that its second-quarter revenues will be better than those recorded in the first quarter, Realtek expects its June revenues to dip slightly from May due to inventory adjustments at clients.
