Notebook ODM Inventec plans to lower the ratio of notebook business to its total sales to 50% in 2012 from 70% projected for 2011, according to company chairman Richard Lee. Inventec's combined shipments of notebooks and tablet PCs are expected to top 20 million units in 2011 compared to 17 million in 2010.

Servers and tablet PCs will be the growth drivers for Inventec in 2011, said the company. Shipments of servers grew by 40% in 2010 thanks to orders from Dell. With the growing popularity of cloud computing technology, server shipments will maintain momentum in 2011, Lee noted.

Inventec's shipments of tablet PCs are expected to more than double in 2011 with shipments to a major client to begin in June, according to industry sources. Inventec declined to confirm.

The company also targets to ship 1.5 million AIO PCs in 2011 and ramp up the shipments to three million units in 2012, the company noted.

Despite the reduced sales ratio, Inventec will not give up its ODM notebook business, stated Yeh Kuo-yi, chairman of the Inventec Group.
