LED chipmaker Epistar announced cash dividends of NT$4.50 on June 10 during a shareholders meeting.
Biing-Jye Lee, chairman of Epistar, lowered the expected penetration rate of LED TV for 2011 from 50% to 40-45% due to weak demand, but the largest growth in shipments for LED components will come around August-September. Lee revealed that the company is running at full capacity for high-end TV backlighting products, with yield coming close to 80%.
Sales of backlighting and lighting products currently account for 50-55% and 20-25% of total revenues respectively. The latter segment is expected to reach 30% by the end of 2011. Shipments of chips for LED light bulbs are estimated to reach 100 million units in 2013, added Lee.
