Production of SDRAM chips at Powerchip Technology might be affected in the second half of 2011 as a major part of the company's capacity will be allocated for the production of LCD driver ICs and CMOS sensors, according to company chairman Frank Huang.

However, Powerchip will continue to offer its capacity to support associate companies and long-term clients, including Etron Technology, Elite Semiconductor Memory Technology (ESMT) and Zentel Electronics, Huang stated.

In cooperation with Renesas Electronics, Powerchip's LCD driver ICs have entered the supply chain of Applie's product lineups, according to industry sources. Powerchip currently rolls out 15,000-20,000 LCD driver ICs a month and plans to ramp up the capacity to 25,000-30,000 units by the end of 2011.

Powerchip focuses on the production small-size LCD driver ICs at present, as associate company Maxchip Electronics concentrates on the production of large-size drive ICs.
