Latest rumors in the solar market indicate quotes for 6-inch polysilicon wafers in China are falling below US$2/unit while inventory levels remain high.
The slight return of demand has not been able to hold up the current price, hence the price continues to drop, said industry sources.
According to Taiwan-based solar wafer makers, as long as polysilicon firms are willing to support flexible prices, wafer firms are willing to assist and help customers with pricing. In addition, the wafer makers in Taiwan and China are a bit different in cost structures. Therefore, when China-based companies begin to dump low-priced wafers onto the market, Taiwan-based solar wafer firms do not necessarily need to do the same.
