Acer will swing back to profitability in the third quarter of 2011 and perform even better in the fourth, with the possibility that Acer will still be able to generate profits for all of 2011, according to company chairman JT Wang.

Acer's second-quarter losses were caused by a high level of inventory in the pan-Europe market, and now the inventory has dropped to a safe level, with the number of inventory turnover days to be lowered to 10-20 days in the third quarter, Wang stated.

In view that a decline in Acer's ranking from second to fourth-place in the global PC market in the second quarter of 2011, Wang stressed that Acer will adopt a new strategy to create more value instead of pursuing volume growth.

Acer plans to launch the world's first notebook powered by a dual-core Tegra 2 CPU in July and will also release new models running on Android 3.2, said Wang, adding that Acer also plans to launch Intel-based Ultrabooks in December.

The global notebook market will stage a single-digit growth in 2011 as compared to the level in 2010, while the netbook market is expected to decline 10-20% during the same period, Wang predicted.
