IC packager Advanced Semiconductor Engineering (ASE) is scheduled to open its new US$460 million plant in Kaohsiung, southern Taiwan, on October 23. Chairman Jason Chang will host an opening ceremony for the facility.

Named K12, ASE's new plant is designated to provide expansion for the company's flip-chip assembly and copper wirebond leadframe/substrate assembly lines.

ASE previously remarked that the K12 plant is expected to generate a production value of US$730 million after kicking off its operations.

In September, ASE broke ground at the site of a regional headquarters in Shanghai, China, where it also runs plants for IC assembly and testing services and IC substrates. Operations are slated for 2012.

ASE remarked previously that the company is looking to expand its operations in China and Taiwan over the next eight to 10 years, which will boost its consolidated sales and global market share significantly.
