Taiwan-based EMS provider Wistron expects to ship 36 million notebooks and four million tablet PCs in 2012, increasing by 20% and 300-400% from 2011, according to company chairman and CEO Simon Lin at on October 28 investors conference.
However, Wistron expects its shipments of LCD TVs in 2012 to remain at eight million units as estimated for 2011 and will therefore slow down expansion of LCD TV production capacity at its factory in Malaysia, Lin indicated.
Wistron will reduce capex in 2011 from US$600 million originally to US$400-450 million and set aside a budget of US$300 million for 2012, with investment to focus on touch technology, tablet PCs and recycling, Lin said.
