Gasgoo.com (Shanghai November 1) - According to a report from Xinhua today, the Ministry of Environmental Protection has finished work on its environmental inspection system for automobile engines. The system was created to implement a standardized system for and improve exhaust emissions.

In accordance with the Prevention and Control of Atmospheric Pollution Law and provisions on engine environmental standards, 1,206 bodies monitoring environmental standards for vehicles and 3,982 test circuits are required to be built in every province and in the country. With this basic infrastructure, which includes one national-level body, nine provincial-level and 58 local ones, the ability for the MEP to evaluate engines should increase by 11 times.

According to the MEP, there are still four aspects which have problems which may hinder environmental inspection work in the country. Firstly, there are still several cites that have not begun implementing the system yet. Secondly, there are infrastructure problems, such as non-standardized testing equipment, which have yet to be resolved. The other two problems involve staff and management, which in some areas are too few in number or skill.

The country as a whole views the Twelfth Five-Year Guideline, a national economic directive period lasting until 2015, as the deadline for a ten percent drop in carbon dioxide emissions nationwide, with a third of those reductions in automobiles.
