Chery plans new entries in hot crossover, green-vehicle segments

   Date:2016/02/04
Chery Automobile Co. plans to roll out five new models -- including two crossovers and two "green" cars -- to boost sales this year.

The crossovers are code-named T15 and A13T. The green vehicles are a plug-in hybrid version of its Arrizo 7 compact sedan and a small electric car. These four models will go on sale in the second half of 2016.

In March, the company will launch sales of a new gasoline-powered compact sedan, Arrizo 5. Further details about the five new models have yet to be disclosed.

Crossovers and green vehicles are the two hottest segments in China.

In 2015, sales of crossovers and SUVs surged 52 percent year on year to more than 6.2 million vehicles, while deliveries of electric vehicles and plug-in hybrids soared 340 percent to 331,092.

Last year, Chery sold 458,837 vehicles, dipping 0.4 percent from 2014, according to Turbo Insight, a Beijing-based consultancy.

Chery, headquartered in the east China city of Wuhu, also has joint ventures with Jaguar Land Rover and Kenon Holdings of Singapore in China.
