GM Had the Highest Sales in the Chinese Market in the First Quarter

Gasgoo released a list of the Top Ten foreign automakers based on their sales in China in the first quarter of 2016. GM beat VW by reaping the largest sales. Ford won all Japanese automakers. Only Hyundai Kia and Peugeot Citroen suffered yearly decline among these ten automakers.
 
This list was made based on retailing data in China’s market from automakers. When referring to China’s market, different automakers might have different geographic definition. But that has negligible effect on the ranking.
 
GM had highest terminal retail sales of 963,652 units in the Chinese market in the first quarter of 2016, a rise of 0.2% from a year earlier.GM had had highest terminal retail sales in the Chinese market in the first quarter of the past several years among foreign automakers including Volkswagen.
 
Volkswagen had sales of 955,500 units in the Chinese market with a rise of 6.4% from a year earlier in the first quarter, tailing GM to take the second place.
 
Hyundai Kia had sales of 229,011 units in the Chinese market in the first quarter, declining by 18.2% from a year earlier. But it still took the third place.
 
Ford had sales of 308,970 units in the Chinese market in the first quarter of this year, increasing by 12.7% compared with sales of 274,127 units of last year. Ford took the fourth place.
 
Nissan had sales of 298,600 units in the Chinese market in the first quarter, increasing by 0.8% compared with 296,280 units of last year. Nissan took the fifth place.
 
Toyota had sales of 291,000 units in the Chinese market in the first quarter, increasing considerably by 27.8%. Toyota took the sixth place.
 
Honda had sales of 262,298 units in the Chinese market in the first quarter, a yearly rise of 11.0%.Honda took the seventh place.
 
Peugeot Citroen had sales of 152,662 units in the Chinese market in the first quarter, a yearly decline of 17.9%. Peugeot Citroen took the eighth place.
 
BMW had sales of 127,105 units in the Chinese market in the first quarter, a yearly rise of 10.5%. BMW took the ninth place.
 
Daimler had sales of 112,358 units in the Chinese market in the first quarter, increasing by 34.5% from a year earlier.
