The conference is a joint effort of PDMA, PDMA-China and Wuhan University of Technology. It brings together global automotive Innovation experts from academia, industry and government sectors for enhancing communication and cooperation among the various stakeholders and for fostering independent innovation to make the industry globally competitive.

CONFERENCE THEME: China’s Automotive Innovation and Independent development

The conference focuses on technology and management practices relevant to automotive innovation in China, future trends and possibilities of independent development, and their effects on Chinese and Global economy. The Conference invites representatives from the automotive industry, Research Centers and Universities to present and discuss these aspects, which will be covered in two parallel tracks.

Track 1: What we know today and what can we predict about future of Chinese automotive industry?

The rapid changes and growth experienced in China’s automotive industry raises many questions. What factors are fuelling this growth? Is it sustainable? How are indigenous enterprises responding to the challenges posed by rapidly increasing markets and growing customer expectations? What problems and opportunities await both Chinese and non-Chinese enterprises attempting to take advantage of the developing automotive market in China? How do Chinese automotive companies drive and manage innovation? Is innovation being driven by corporate research, by cooperative programs with other OEMs or suppliers, with integrated programs for rapid implementation and/or proof testing of innovative new technology and concepts? How is technical advancement and innovation in China tracked in companies, in the automotive industry, and across the scientific community? What development policies are currently being pursued by the Chinese Govt. and what are their implications for the Chinese Automotive industry? What does the future hold for market development and in commitment for independent development. These questions will be addressed through extended, in-depth keynote sessions, lectures, and case studies in this track.

Track 2: What can we learn from the best practices and how can China implement key learnings?

What can China learn from the global best-practices in innovation processes? What will be the role of independent R&D in the Innovation Economy? Does independent R&D have an opportunity to transform Chinese automotive industry’s economic future? How will the infusion of innovative thinking into the development process facilitate bringing new technologies to market effectively, bringing significant improvements to the quality of Chinese automotive products? Is the Chinese automobile Industry prepared to meet these coming challenges? Are educators building programs to provide leadership for these imperatives? Understanding and answering these questions is a formidable challenge that this track will attempt to answer.
