China's market watchdog issued an alert on Monday in Beijing requiring local quarantine departments to tighten up on inspection of sausage imported from Japan.
The move came after Shenzhen quarantine authorities found that the sorbic acid content of seven kinds of Japan-made fish sausage exceeded the upper limit of 0.5 g/kg set by China's sanitation authorities, according to a circular from the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine. Sorbic acid is a food additive.
The administration said it has informed the Embassy of Japan in China of the issue and urged its Japanese counterpart to be vigilant about quality supervision of food stuffs exported to China.
