Compal Electronics announced on February 24 that it will invest NT$294 million (US$9.94 million) to set up a notebook plant in Chongqing, China slated to begin to volume production in the second half of 2011.

Initially, Compal will rent an existing factory available in Chongqing before establishing its own plant in the second half of the year.

The new investment comes just one month later after the company began construction of a new plant in Chengdu which is scheduled to complete in June 2011.
