Passive component manufacturing equipment maker Laser Tek has revealed that orders for its embedded resistor laser trimmers for second-quarter 2011 are stronger than those received for the first quarter as chip resistor makers gear up output in smaller 0201 and 01005 sizes.

The company also stated that its supplies of SMD packaging materials will not be affected by the earthquake that hit Japan recently because it also purchases industrial paper used in the production of SMD packaging materials from Germany and Korea.

Shipments of resistor laser trimmers and packaging materials for the production of 0201 and 01005 chip resistors will be the growth driver in 2011, said Laser Tek chairman Gary Cheng.

Additionally, the company's shipments of LED sorting, testing and packaging machines will also expand substantially in 2011, Cheng added.
