Gelatin production expansion of the Rousselot business unit further reinforces its position in China. The world's second-largest manufacturer of gelatin, Rousselot, part of the giant Vion meat and food processing group, has acquired a fourth plant in China.

Rousselot started operations in China in March 1996 with its first joint venture in Kaiping --Rousselot (Guangdong) Gelatin. In January 2004 Rousselot expanded its China operations by acquiring Rousselot (Wenzhou) Gelatin followed by the acquisition in April 2006 of Rousselot (Da'an) Gelatin.

Rousselot's most recent acquisition--Rousselot (Zhejiang) Gelatin Co. Ltd.--is its fourth joint venture in China. It is located in Pingyang town, Wenzhou, and has a production capacity of 3,000 metric tons of acid-hide and acid pig-skin gelatin.

Through the four plants, Rousselot's production capacity in China is now 16,000 metric tons, with an expected output of 20,000 metric tons by 2008.

Rousselot reports it aims to become the largest supplier of the safest and highest-quality gelatin in the Asia Pacific region in the next five years. Rousselot is a worldwide leading manufacturer of gelatin and hydrolyzed collagen to the food, pharmaceutical, and photographic industries. It is a business unit of the division VION Ingredients.
