IDF 2011: Intel to enter 14nm process in 2014

   Date:2011/09/15

Intel CPUs will enter 14nm processing by 2014, according to Steven Smith, vice president and head of netbook, tablet PC business speaking at Intel Developer Forum (IDF) in San Francisco.

Intel will launch 22nm Ivy Bridge-based processors in 2012, 22nm Haswell-based processors in 2013 and push a 14nm process for CPUs in 2014. As for Atom processors, 32nm Atom processors will show up in the fourth quarter, with 22nm Silvermont-based processors to make an appearance in 2013, and 14nm Airmont-based CPUs in 2014.

Compared to Taiwan's leading semiconductor player Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), which is already in the process of developing a 14nm node, but will still need to wait until 2014 to finalize its production methods with official mass production estimated to start in 2015, Intel still has an advantage.
