Newmax sees dropping camera module shipment due to weak Kinect sales

   Date:2011/09/27

Although Microsoft has been aggressive in pushing its Kinect into non-Xbox 360 platforms, the effects of weakening US and Europe economies have caused a drop in Kinect sales, and Taiwan-based optical lens maker Newmax Technology, a supplier of Kinect camera modules, has already seen dropping shipments in the second half, according to market watchers.

With market demand for Kinect weaker than expected, Newmax's revenues in August dropped 14.29% on month and the company is unlikely to see its camera module shipments rebound in the fourth quarter.

Currently, Newmax has already turned its focus and is aggressive striving for camera module orders from smartphone and tablet PC players, the market watchers noted. Commenting on the report, Newmax only pointed out that the company will be aggressive landing camera module orders from different application sources.

In 2011, Newmax is expected to ship 6-7 million camera modules for smartphones and is currently also sending samples to several other potential clients, which are expected to have a chance to place orders to Newmax in 2012.
