Panasonic Taiwan said it has not heard of any layoff plans concerning its workers in Taiwan, following recent reports claiming the headquarters in Japan is going to slash 1,000 jobs within the corporation.

Panasonic reportedly has decided to close down the No. 3 factory for PDP TV in Amagasaki, Hyogo prefecture, by 2012, according to industry sources. In addition, an LCD panel plant in Mobara, Chiba prefecture, may be sold, the sources said.

Panasonic's TV market share in 2010 fell to 8%, less than half of that of Samsung, said DisplaySearch.

Panasonic Taiwan said it has a very streamlined staff and it will not ask employees to take unpaid leave.

Japanese media has reported that Panasonic has been mulling laying off overseas workers since April 2011.
