Beijing, meanwhile, has unveiled an economic development plan for the country’s current 12th five year program. Under the plan, the city’s districts will be broken up according to special areas of focus.

The capital's northern district will prioritize the development of emerging industries, and the south will focus on high end manufacturing. The east will be the planned center for other manufacturing and services, while the west will become a base for industrial upgrades.

Located in the central area of Bohai Economic Rim, Beijing city’s northeastern Ping’gu District will seek to take advantage of its geographical position to develop logistics.

Also as a state-level ecological demonstration zone, Ping’gu will continue its efforts to boost green industries, high end tourism and innovation.

The district’s annual GDP growth averaged nearly 15.6 percent during the 11th five year program, while reducing energy and water consumption by around half during the period.
