Taiwan-based Everlight Electronics has decided to file a complaint with the Tokyo District Court against Japan-based LED maker Nichia, accusing the company of lodging untruthful allegations on its products.

Japan-based LED firm Nichia has filed patent infringement lawsuits against Taiwan-based LED firms such as Everlight and Unity Opto. The lawsuits have extended further to retailers of the two Taiwan-based firms.

Unity Opto stated that currently it has no plans to file counter lawsuits against Nichia, but it does not rule out any patent protection measures in the future. An LED light bulb named in Nichia-filed patent infringement lawsuits has been redesigned and back on the market, Unity Opto said, adding the lawsuits have no yet affected sales.
