China's imports to reach $8 trln in next 5yrs

The Ministry of Commerce forecasts that the value of China’s imports will reach eight trillion US dollars in the next five years. The announcement was made by Chong Quan, Deputy China International Trade Representative, during a press conference in Beijing.

The conference was held to introduce China’s latest white paper, detailing the country’s trade relations over the past 10 years since joining the World Trade Organization. Chong added that since joining the WTO, China has become the world’s largest exporter, and the 2nd largest importer.

Chong Quan said, "Over the past ten years, China’s GDP has risen from the 6th to the 2nd, with an annual growth rate of 11 percent. In 2010, China’s GDP stood at 40 trillion yuan, becoming the 2nd largest economy in the world. In per capita terms, China’s GDP last year has risen from 8,592 yuan to 29,670 yuan. In its foreign exchange reserve, it has risen from 212.2 billion US dollars, to 2.85 trillion dollars this year, growing by 13 times."
