Valley firms join $25M funding for Chinese search engine

Qihoo, a search provider on the Internet and mobile platforms in China, said it raised $25 million in its second round of financing which was joined by valley firms.

Beijing-based Qihoo said funding was led by Highland Capital Partners, which has an office in Menlo Park. Also participating was Menlo Park-based Redpoint Ventures.

In conjunction with the financing, Dan Nova and Chuan Thor of Highland will join Qihoo's board, as will Redpoint's David Yuan.

Qihoo's underlying technology is focused on searching, accessing and presenting relevant information from user generated content online. The company is led by founder Hongyi Zhou, who sold 3721, a Chinese Internet search engine and marketing company, to Sunnyvale-based Yahoo Inc. and later was president of Yahoo China.
