Starbucks Will not Raise Coffee Prices in Taiwan

   Date:2012/01/09

President Starbucks Coffee, a joint venture between Taiwan's Uni-President and US coffee chain Starbucks, said Wednesday it has no plans to raise prices on any of its beverages.

The announcement came amid concerns as to whether the local coffee chain will follow the lead of the US chain and adjust its prices.

Starbucks announced this week that it is raising prices by an average of 1% in some US regions, including cities such as Boston, New York, Washington DC, Atlanta and Dallas, to offset rising ingredient costs.

In response, a President Starbucks spokesman said price adjustments tend to be based on individual market situations.

After increasing its prices for coffee with added milk by NT$10 (US$0.33) per cup and by NT$5 (US$0.16) for black coffee last October — a move that sparked outrage in Taiwan — the company has no plans to further adjust its prices, the spokesman said.
