Largan Precision sees 50% of camera lens shipments being 8-megapixel models

   Date:2012/03/06

Largan Precision in February has about 50% of its camera lens shipments being 8-megapixel models with 5-megapixel models accounting for about 20% and models with smaller resolutions such as 1-, 2- and 3-megapixel each only account for a single-digit percentage, according to the company.

As in terms of applications, camera lens shipments for tablet PCs in February only accounted for about 10% of Largan's revenues and since it is still unclear about when tablet PCs will be able to make a bigger contribution to its revenues, the company expects smartphones to remain its major shipment driver in 2012.

Since its clients still have not yet started placing orders for their new smartphone models for 2012, Largan expects its revenues in the first quarter of 2012 to drop close to 10% sequentially.

As for the future, Largan expects the mainstream camera lens specification for smartphone will remain at 8-megapixel in 2012 and to satisfy consumers' demand for video recording, shipments of HD and a Full HD camera lens to smartphone vendors are expected to increase and boost the company's profitability.
