After Japan Earthquake, Japan-China political issues and slow upgrade speed of products, FAW Toyoto entered a recovery period with its new models like RAV4 and Vios. Tian Congming, the general manager of FAW Toyota, said that launch of RAV4 in September drove the company’s sales, among which monthly sales volume (September and October) in South China exceeded 20,000 units and accounted for about 30% of the company’s total.
Tian added that, although small cars’ market shares in large cities declined, Toyota would pay attention to third-tier and forth-tier cities. Aiming to develop markets in third-tier and forth-tier cities, the company had changed monotonous mode of 4S stores and began to apply 4S+branch mode. He says that the company is building its second store and will promote this mode to smaller areas. In addition, the company will host more than 200 exhibition activities each year to improve brand awareness.
Tian predicted that the sales volume in 2014 would keep a growth rate of 10% to 15%; particularly, medium and small cars like RAV4 SUV, New Vios and corolla would still be growth engines.
