Geely sales advance 19% on demand for 2 new crossovers, upgraded compact car

   Date:2016/06/14
Geely Automobile Holdings' deliveries rose 19 percent from a year earlier to 45,850 vehicles in May on higher demand for two new crossovers and an upgraded compact car.

Two new compact crossovers -- the NL3 and the Emgrand GS -- generated sales last month of 6,049 and 2,800, respectively.

As a result, sales of Geely's Emgrand product line jumped 21 percent to 16,101 vehicles.

Geely also received a lift from an upgraded version of the Vison compact car, which was launched in March with a starting price of 53,900 yuan ($8,200). Last month, Vison sales surged 31 percent to 10,885 vehicles.

But sales of Geely's other models remain weak. In May, deliveries of the Kingkong compact sedan dipped 2 percent to 4,352 vehicles.

In the first five months, Geely sold 233,763 vehicles, up 7 percent from the same period last year. The company aims to sell 600,000 cars and light trucks this year.

Geely, headquartered in the east China city of Hangzhou, is listed in Hong Kong. Its parent, Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co. also owns Volvo Car Corp.
