CHINA Pacific Insurance (Group) Co, the country's third-largest life insurer, is lobbying for permission to float shares in Shanghai after its planned Hong Kong listing, Reuters reported yesterday, citing unnamed sources.

The insurer made a loss in 2004 but was profitable in 2005 and is expected to report a solid performance in its 2006 earnings, said the report. The insurer was not available for immediate comment yesterday.
