The report sums up the development of the global and Chinese fertilizer markets in 2004. Through accurate data and full elaboration, it presents the structure of China's fertilizer market and the features of the demand-supply relationship from various angles. Meanwhile, it examines the competition between enterprises in different segment markets, presenting assessment of leading players’ competitiveness.

The report especially points out the following: China tops the world in terms of chemical fertilizer output, imports volume and consumption. The country can be basically self-sufficient in terms of nitrogen and sulphur fertilizers. But this is still not the case for high-concentration compound sulphur fertilizer. 90% of China's potassium fertilizer depends on imports. In 2004, China's fertilizer output grew by over 10% year-on-year, but this did not level off the rising fertilizer prices, which get increasingly higher since 2003. The main reasons for rising fertilizer prices were: growing demand and rising transportation cost. Raw material prices generally rose and the prices of coal, electricity, oil and gas remained high. In the next 5 years, chemical fertilizer demand in China will continue to rise, up to 9% per year. Meanwhile, the nitrogen, sulphur and potassium fertilizer structure will become more rational.

After analyzing major factors affecting the development of China's fertilizer market during 2005-2009, the report presents qualitative and quantitative forecasts of the market development. Finally, it provides pertinent development strategy and recommendations for leading enterprises and growing enterprises respectively.
