In 2006, China liquor and beverage industry maintained steady and rapid growth; the improvement of residents' consumption level will boost the liquor and beverage industry to maintain good growth momentum. Judging from the growth rate of gross industrial output value, that of spirit-making industry was improved to some extent, those of other sub-industries were somewhat regulated as well, in which the wine industry had the largest regulation.

In Jan-Dec 2006, large-scaled enterprises generated sales income of RMB 229.501 billion, up by 28.16% year on year, of which RMB 83.885 billion, 97.139 billion, 12.952 billion and 5.518 billion respectively came from beer, distilled spirit, wine and rice wine, up by 16.37%, 31.08%, 25.04% and 25.69%. The total profits reached RMB 18.003 billion, growing by 34.88%, of which RMB 4.624 billion, 10.02 billion, 1.353 billion, 0.45 billion, 1.223 billion and 333 million were respectively brought by beer, distilled spirit, wine, rice wine, alcohol and fruit cordial, increasing by 25.79%, 34.21%, 19.63%, 25.7%, 100.82% and 15.63% over the same period of 2005.

In 2007, China's liquor and beverage industry will grow stably, the market environment will be further improved, and the profits will increase steadily. In Jan-Mar 2007, the liquor and beverage industry totally received fixed assets investment of RMB 7.652 billion, up by 36.7% year on year.

Taking beer industry for example, China's current beer industry is in the middle or end stage of integration, and its overall profitability shows a rising momentum in the process of adjustment. The year of 2007 will witness new-round integration in the beer industry focusing on the merger and acquisition among international and domestic giants as well as national layout adjustment within large-sized enterprises. In Q1 2007, China's accumulative beer output was 6959,000 tons, up by 19.6% year on year.

In the distilled spirit industry represented by Kweichow Moutai Co., Ltd. and Wuliangye Group, the market share will be further concentrated to high-end products in 2007; it's estimated that the sales value of high-grade distilled spirit will maintain the annual growth rate of 30%, yet low-grade distilled spirit will have a limited increase despite the profits brought by the growth of the whole industry. It's predicted that in 2007-2011, the sales income of China's spirit industry will ascend at 12% averagely, with the industry profit growing at about 25%, indicating that the spirit industry will continue to run in high level. According to China's consumption growth trend forecast, by 2011, China's spirit market (including foreign spirit) will achieve the sales scale of RMB 200 billion; as of 2010, the market scale of China's top-grade spirit will reach RMB 85 billion as well.
