Big development has been made in China computer hardware manufacturing industry under political support of the Government. Its products have become capable of remarkable competitiveness. China's entire IT hardware market mainly comprises five parts—PC (including Notebook), terminal equipment (including server, storage products, router and exchange machine, etc.), peripheral devices, digital products and other hardware products.

In 2006, China computer market continued its strong growth. Under the background of innovation and integration, there has been a rise in the application level of computer users in China. Still, there is a trend for the integration of many industries like computer, software & communication, internet, digital content and consumer electronics. In 2006, the sales income of China computer market amounted to RMB 56.89 billion, up by 15.6% over 2005. However, hardware product took a decreased proportion of 63.2%, a drop of 2.3 percent compared to the year of 2005. In the coming five years, the annual compound growth rate of China computer market will remain 15.3%. And the market sales will be up to RMB 1, 158.68 billion in 2011, in which the proportion of hardware equipment will decrease to 50.2% due to slow development.

In 2006, China peripheral market achieved steady growth, its sales volume and sales value increased 18.3% and 14.0% respectively year-on-year. Fuelled by rapid growth of LCD, the sales income of display screens grew by 17.5% compared to the preceding year. As far as the printer is concerned, the overall sales revenue surpassed RMB10 billion due to the fast growth of laser printer. Multi-function integrated machine, projector and outer disc storage system also kept rapid growth, but their market scale is small.

Nowadays, one user could own many digital products. Among netizens, more than 60% netizens own MP3. 44% netizens own digital cameras; one-third netizens have flash card; nearly one fifth netizens own MP4s and digital cameras.
