In 2004, Motorola, Nokia are ranked at the top 3 by market share respectively. Due to the hot sales of several Linux phones, the market occupancy for Motorola was as high as 41.6%, followed by Nokia with a share of 23.0%. The main reason why Nokia drop behind by Motorola was due to it lacks of phone models, however, along with the launch of 7610, added the hot sales of 6610 for the whole year, Nokia still achieved a good performance. By the good performance of the cheap phone models of OEASY E868 and DOEASY E858, Bird also achieved considerable sales.

On the aspect of Operation System (OS), Linux showed a strong development with a market share of 48.3%. The domestic Hopen OS also showed a good performance with a market share of 8.1%.

We also found:

(1)The decline of single profit of mobile phones forced more and more manufacturers to produce smartphone, the fierce competition also decreased the price, and thus caused the sales continual grow fast.

(2)Year 2005 will keep the growing trend happed in 2004, Linux products will also keep the leading position in Chinese market.

(3)In 2005, Motorola and Nokia will still keep in the first group with an advantage, and Nokia might take over Motorola.

(4)The Chinese smartphone market is in the take off phase without an absolutely leading brand.

(5)Design companies are playing an important role in the Chinese smartphone market, and mobile ISV is also gaining a fast development
