SUZUKI Motor Corp, Japan's second-biggest minicar maker, will recall Liana compact vehicles in China to fix faults in their transmissions.

The recall, starting tomorrow, covers 11,716 Liana cars made in China between October 27, 2005, and June 9 this year, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said in a statement posted on its Website, citing the auto maker's local venture. It's the first recall by Changhe Suzuki Automobile Co.

China, the world's second-largest vehicle market, started implementing vehicle-recall rules in October, 2004. Vehicle defects cause about a fifth of all road accidents in China, government agencies said last year. Sales of Liana cars fell 12 percent in the first half, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, Bloomberg News reported.
