Launching latest models, showing dazzling concept cars and cutting-edge automotive technologies, car makers are grabbing the year-end chance to lure affluent Chinese buyers at the 5th China (Guangzhou) International Automobile Exhibition.

The annual auto show, which will run for a week from this Saturday at the Guangzhou International Convention and Exhibition Center, will cover a total space of 95,000 square meters and include eight exhibition halls.

Dubbed "Keep pace with the world - gear up for life," the Guangzhou auto show has attracted major top-name car makers and auto parts manufacturers to take in the nation's third biggest auto gathering after Beijing and Shanghai.

As the last auto convention for this year and an ideal springboard to create a good start for next year's sales spurt, car makers have placed high attention to detail at the show.

For many models, the auto show marks their Chinese and even Asian debut.

As auto makers including Toyota, Honda and Nissan, have well-established manufacturing facilities in the south China region, a bunch of highly anticipated new models will be launched, further marking Japan's long-time domination in the regional auto market.

Three Japanese greats

Guangzhou Honda Automobile Co Ltd will officially announced the Chinese-made new Accord mid-to-high class sedan only three months after its global debut.

The 2008 Accord sedan, the eighth generation of its kind, is the largest and most luxurious model in the Accord family with a new 3.5-liter V-6 engine, which features Honda's advanced Variable Cylinder Management technology.

Guangzhou Honda is the venture formed by Guangzhou Automotive Industry Corp and Honda Motor Corp.

Like Honda, Toyota Motor Corp, the top Japanese car maker, has a strong presence at the show, and hopes to realize its target to take 10 percent of China's market share by 2010.
