FORD Motor Co, the second-largest United States auto maker, boosted sales in China by 31 percent in the first 10 months of the year, led by demand for Focus compacts. Ford sold 166,539 vehicles to consumers in the 10 months ended October, it said yesterday. The tally includes Volvo, Lincoln and Land Rover brand vehicles.

Ford's China venture opened a US$510-million facility in eastern Nanjing in September as China's economic growth boosts demand for the Focus and other vehicles. Overall passenger-car sales in China, the world's second-largest auto market, rose 24 percent in the first 10 months, said Bloomberg News. The new plant raised Chang'an Ford Mazda Automobile Co's annual capacity to 410,000 vehicles. The Focus was China's seventh-bestselling passenger car in the first 10 months.
