SHANGHAI Volkswagen Co Ltd reported its sales rose 23 percent last year, helping it to the third largest passenger car manufacturer in China, trailing FAW Volkswagen and Shanghai General Motors.

The venture formed by Volkswagen AG, Europe's largest car maker, and Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp, sold a record high of 436,000 units last year, the car maker said yesterday.
