Taiwan-based Acer grabbed top-spot positions in both desktop and notebook segments of the Russian PC market in the second quarter of 2010, said International Data Corporation (IDC). Last Friday, the research firm reported some figures from its Quarterly PC Tracker for the Russian market.

In the second quarter of 2010, PC shipments in Russia amounted to 2.23 million units, up 3.2% sequentially and 67.1% on year, according to IDC. The research firm pointed out that top-5 market leaders have remained the same for already a year, with Acer, Asustek and the global leader HP holding their No.1, No.2 and No.3 positions correspondingly.

In the desktop PC segment Acer was behind HP in the first quarter of 2010, but last quarter, the duo of leaders swapped positions. Total desktop PC shipments in Russia were 862,000 units in the second quarter, up 1.5% sequentially and up 21.6% on year, according to IDC.

Notebook shipments last quarter totaled 1.37 million units, which corresponded to a record 61.4% of the Russian PC market as a whole, IDC pointed out. In terms of unit shipments the notebook market in Russia was more than twice as big as that in the second quarter of 2009, while the sequential growth was about 4.6%, according to the researchers. Acer and Asustek retained their top-two positions in the vendors ranking.

IDC also noted that mini-notebooks' share of total notebook shipments in Russia increased from 17% in the second quarter of 2009 to 22.9% last quarter. Tablet PCs were not included in the report, said one local news agency citing the research firm.
