Acer Inc aims to generate revenue of US$30 billion by 2011, double last year's level, thanks to the acquisition of United States-based Gateway and the rapidly growing laptop business, Acer President Gianfranco Lanci said yesterday in Shanghai.
The US and China are two fast-growing regional markets, according to Acer, who surpassed Lenovo to become the world's No. 3 PC maker last year.
Acer, whose brands include Acer, Gateway and Packard Bell, is expected to generate revenue of US$20 billion this year and the world's No. 2 laptop vendor expects to lead the laptop market by 2011, Lanci said.
"The desktop sales will grow moderately in future and our laptop sales will continue to grow at 35 to 40 percent annually to surpass Hewlett-Packard Inc then," he said.
Taiwan-based Acer is also working on ultra mobile devices and Lanci forecast these would contribute 10 percent of revenue in 2011.
Acer acquired Gateway last year for US$710 million.
In Asia Pacific excluding Japan, Acer surpassed Founder to become the No. 4 player in the region, with a revenue market share of 6.6 percent by the end of 2007. Its revenue grew 45.4 percent year on year.
Acer's major revenue came from Europe and it is growing rapidly in emerging markets such China, Russia and Brazil. The domestic market contributed about five percent to Acer's global revenue and it will grow at least 50 percent this year, according to TY Lay, Acer's head in the Chinese mainland. |
