Powertech Technology (PTI) has said it is mulling plans to revise upward its capex budget for 2010 to NT$10-12 billion (US$31.19-38.63 million) in order to ramp up its capacity. The memory backend service supplier previously set its budget at NT$9 billion.

PTI plans to ramp up new capacity at its facilities in Taiwan, according to the company. It may also increase outsourcing to Payton Technology, Kingston Technology's wholly-owned packaging and testing house, said the company.

PTI revealed that orders from major customers, including Elpida Memory and Toshiba, have filled up the company's current capacity. Orders for DRAM chips have even exceeded its capacity by 40 million units a month.

PTI expects its monthly output for DRAM memory to reach 240-250 million units at the end of 2010, compared to 200 million at present, according to the company.

As for NAND flash, PTI said monthly shipments may grow to more than 90 million units by year-end from the current 80 million.

PTI saw consolidated revenues for the first quarter of 2010 beat its guidance. It was quoted in previous reports estimating revenues would likely grow sequentially through the third quarter.
