BOE plans 5.5G AMOLED plant, say reports

Chin's largest LCD panel maker BOE Technology Group plans to build a 5.5G AMOLED plant, according to reports from China.

China's First Financial Daily said on August 15 that according to a report it has obtained, BOE is considering constructing a 5.5G AMOLED plant in Ordos, Inner Mongolia. JRJ.com, a financial news website in China, estimated total investment of the project to reach RMB22 billion (US$3.44 billion).

But other players in China's panel industry have questioned the feasibility of the project, as Ordos does not have a panel supply chain, said the daily.

The paper cited industry sources as saying that BOE's AMOLED project in Ordos is more likely to be a gimick to enhance its attempt to win more financial support for its diversification into the coal business.
