Inventec has reported a 24.5% sequential drop in August revenues while Wistron saw almost flat growth. Meanwhile, Quanta Computer's August sales only saw a single-digit rise on month. The latest financial data reflect disappointing back-to-school demand.

Quanta registered NT$93.06 billion (US$3.2 billion) in August consolidated revenues, up 8.7% sequentially. Its notebook shipments increased by a larger 11% from July to five million units.

Quanta previously warned of a particularly weak second half, estimating shipments would grow by only 5% from the levels in the first half. Shipments for the whole of 2011 should be able to meet its target of 10% growth, the company said.

Market watchers expect new orders for tablets to buoy Quanta's revenue performance in the second half of 2011. The company reportedly has secured orders from Amazon and Sony.

Wistron posted consolidated revenues of NT$51.74 billion in August, up 0.35% on month. It shipped 2.5 million notebooks in August, about 100,000 higher than July levels.

Wistron previously remarked that shipments would grow by a single-digit rate sequentially in the third and fourth quarters. Its target to ship 30 million notebooks in 2011 remains unchanged, the company added.

Wistron is expected to benefit from the orders shifted by Hewlett-Packard (HP) from Flextronics, which will help sustain its sales performance for the second half of 2011, industry sources have pointed out.

Inventec's revenues declined 24.5% on month to NT$24.98 billion in August. Revenues for the first eight months of 2011 decreased 5.1% from a year earlier to NT$218.03 billion.

Inventec has estimated that shipments for 2011 will remain flat with a possibility of slight growth.
