China will invest 1 trln yuan in the telecom sector over the next five years, according to Wang Xudong, the information industry minister. 

Wang added the sector is expected to contribute over 2.2 pct of GDP growth in the period. In 2010, telephone users are projected at 1 bln, and Internet users at 200 mln, Wang added.

In the 10 months to October, revenue from the telecom sector was 536 bln yuan and fixed investment 158.6 bln yuan. The number of telephone users was 800 mln.
