Pegatron lands notebook orders from HP

   Date:2012-02-09

Pegatron Technology has recently landed notebook orders from Hewlett-Packard (HP). With its existing orders from Toshiba and Acer for 2012, the company's shipments are expected to turn strong in the second half giving the company the potential to achieve its goal of shipping 20 million notebooks in 2012, according to sources from upstream component makers. However, Pegatron declined to comment about its clients or orders.

Pegatron has also successfully grabbed iPhone and iPad orders from Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry), and as a result the company's revenues in 2012 are expected to rise 40% on year to NT$700 billion (US$23.72 billion) from NT$500 billion in 2011, the sources estimated.

Pegatron shipped about 15.45-15.7 million notebooks in 2011 and is expected to ship 19-20 million units in 2012. Asustek Computer will remain the largest client of Pegatron, followed by Toshiba, Acer, Fujitsu and Lenovo. In addition to standard notebooks, HP also outsourced ultrabook orders to Pegatron, although initial volumes are not large. Pegatron is also the ODM of HP's motherboard, desktop PC and all-in-one PC products, the sources pointed out.

As for tablet PCs, Pegatron is currently the ODM of Asustek's Eee Pad Transformer series, while Asustek's 7-inch MIMO is manufactured by Wistron. Although Pegatron is also the manufacturer of Dell's tablet PCs, due to the machines' unsatisfactory sales, there is currently no plans for production; therefore, Pegatron's tablet PC shipments are expected to reach around six million units, the sources noted.
